Currently Using #1 – Makeup

Currently Using Makeup currently using makeup currently using makeup laura mercier sil creme radiance primer revlon photoready rimmel wake me up chanel les beiges powder chanel les beiges powder ysl cream blush babydoll 09 currently using makeup currently using makeup

After moisturizing I go in with a primer. Recently I’ve been using and liking the Laura Mercier Radiance Primer (£29). This little primer creates a smooth base and adds a soft glow that minimizes the look of any imperfections. It doesn’t extend the life of my foundation but I still like it for the amazing ‘healthy glow’ effect.

The foundation I’ve been testing for some time now is the well-known Laura Mercier Silk Crème Foundation in Cream Ivory (£34). This is a thick, medium to full coverage foundation with a radiant, almost dewy finish. I have mixed feeling about this one. I found it can either look beautiful or horrible depending on how well you apply it and what skincare are you using underneath. It’s so thick and pigmented that you have to be careful when applying, take your time and blend, blend, and… then blend some. Its staying power on me is average and I tend to get quite oily when wearing this. At times LM Silk Crème can block my pores and I fell that my skin is more congested after wearing it, for this reason alone I won’t re-purchase.

Two drugstore concealers I’ve been loving lately are Revlon PhotoReady in light (£6.49) and Rimmel Wake Me Up in Ivory (£5.49). I use Revlon PhotoReady to conceal any imperfections including blemishes, scarring and redness. It has a good coverage, nice creamy consistency, blends well, and stays put if set with a powder. Rimmel Wake Me Up is great for under eyes to hide dark circles and brighten up the area. This has a lighter consistency; it blends easily and doesn’t sit in the fine lines. Good and inexpensive, a win – win.

My setting powder of choice for the last four months has been Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder in 020 (£39). This is a lightweight, translucent powder that sets makeup and adds a subtle healthy glow to the complexion. The powder is very finely milled and adds a beautiful, final touch to any makeup look. The downside for me is that it doesn’t do a very good job at keeping oil at bay. But, to be fair, it wasn’t designed for that. Overall, a very nice, luxurious powder.

On my cheeks I’ve been wearing YSL Cream Blush in 09 Babydoll (£29), which is a very pink, bright, ‘perk me up’ colour. Nice, cream to powder texture, very pigmented and easily bendable. Expensive but not really unique, and I’m not yet convinced it’s worth the high price tag.

The eye palette I’ve been reaching for a lot over the last few months is Bobbi Brown Rich Chocolate Eye Palette. Gorgeous but sadly this was a limited edition. I’ve reviewed it previously here.

Tweezerman Brow Mousse (£10) is a great little clear gel to tame unruly brows. I cannot say a bad word about it. Again read a full review here.

Lastly, my lip products of choice are two drugstore offerings: Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie (£7.99) and Bourjois Effect 3D Lipgloss in Frambroise Tonic (£7.99). Both are lovely, raspberry shades, perfect for spring! Natural and soft, yet, classy. Their staying power is average but it’s easy to top up on the go as both allow for relatively mess-free application.

Klorane Mango Butter and Citrus Pulp Shampoos Review

Klorane Mango Butter and Citrus Pulp Shampoos Review Klorane Mango Butter and Citrus Pulp Shampoos Review Klorane Mango Butter and Citrus Pulp Shampoos Review Klorane Mango Butter and Citrus Pulp Shampoos Review

I’ve been obsessed with Klorane shampoos for some time now. I think that their shampoos strike a perfect balance between being natural, gentle and effective. Each shampoo contains plant extracts cultivated using techniques that respect local ecosystem.

Two shampoos I particularly fell in love with are: Mango Butter and Citrus Pulp.

Shampoo with Mango Butter is best suited for dry hair, as mango (its kernel in fact) is rich in essential fatty acids, and has nourishing and restorative properties. The formula is just perfect: quite rich and buttery, with a divine mango fragrance. It foams nicely and leaves hair very soft, smooth and supple. I don’t use it daily as my hair tends to be on the oily side but whenever I feel my hair needs a bit of a moisture boost- Klorane Mango Butter Shampoo does the trick! Love it.

Shampoo with Citrus Pulp, on the other hand, is best suited for dull, normal to oily hair. It contains extract from Citron, fruit traditionally used for its toning, purifying and detoxifying properties. This shampoo contains not only Citrus Pulp but also a complex of sebo-regulators that revitalize and purify the hair, getting rid of any residues, and leaving hair lighter. This shampoo is lighter and more liquidy than Mango Butter shampoo, equally gentle and perfect for frequent use. It removes oil very well and leaves the hair refreshed and looking more alive. Smells very fresh and citrusy too!

Klorane shampoos are available at Escentual and retail for £6 for 200ml but you can usually grab them a little cheaper there. There are ten different shampoos in the Klorane range, each aimed at different hair concern.

Lovely brand, highly recommended!

S5 Purity Serum for Blemish Prone Skin Review

S5 Purity Anti blemish serum review S5 Purity Anti blemish serum review S5 Purity Anti blemish serum review S5 Purity Anti blemish serum review S5 Purity Anti blemish serum review S5 Purity Anti blemish serum review

S5 is an organic skincare brand aimed at reactive skin types and skin concerns including blemishes, sensitivity, dryness, pigmentation and fine lines. S5 claim that their products reduce skin immune over-response to environmental, physical and emotional stress, which can cause skin chronic inflammation and skin problems. They are EcoCert certified brand and use only 100% natural active ingredients. Sounds like a dream come true, right?

After reading some good review about S5 Purity serum and how it helped to control cystic acne for some, I finally decided to give it a go. At £44 per 30ml bottle it’s hardly a budget product and it’s the most expensive serum that I’ve tried so far. You can buy it here.

S5 advertises the Purity Serum as a “targeted breakout control treatment for blemish prone skin with rainforest bioactives to reduce the appearance of blemishes and pores for a clearer complexion”. The key active ingredients are amazonian bioactives that are supposed to reduce the appearance of blemishes by 43%, and alpine bioactives supposed to reduce oil production by 55%, the appearance of pores by 18% and finally, 2% Salicylic Acid equivalent derived from willow bark to boost cellular renewal.

I’ve been using it religiously for over two and a half month, once daily in the evening under my usual moisturizer. It has quite nice, watery consistency, very sweet botanical smell, leaves skin slightly sticky but absorbs, if you give it about 30 seconds.

Did it work for me? Well, it didn’t.

To give you some inside into my skin’s condition: I suffer from regular breakouts, with monthly cystic flare-ups that leave my skin ruined (post acne marks), usually for weeks to come. The only thing that I could say S5 Purity Serum has done for me is to calm irritation, reduce redness and moisturize. I haven’t noticed any reduction in the amount of new breakouts or the healing speed of the existing ones, or the appearance of my pores.

I have to say, I am both glad and sad that it didn’t work for me. Glad because it’s an expensive product that with regular use can ruin your budget. Sad… for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, there isn’t one miracle product that works for everyone.

I may try it again in the future and try to use it twice daily perhaps but for now my search for a gentle anti-acne product that actually works continues.

If you have any product recommendations please leave a comment below :)

Burt’s Bees Radiance Cleanser and Radiance Day Cream Review

Burt’s Bees Radiance Cleanser and Radiance Day Cream Review Burt’s Bees Radiance Cleanser and Radiance Day Cream Review Burt’s Bees Radiance Cleanser and Radiance Day Cream Review Burt’s Bees Radiance Cleanser and Radiance Day Cream Review Burt’s Bees Radiance Cleanser and Radiance Day Cream Review

Burt’s Bees Radiance range includes six face products (day cream, night cream, cleanser, toner, serum, and eye cream) that are supposed to enhance skin’s radiance, reduce the appearance of fine lines and nourish the skin. All products in the collection are enriched with natural ingredients to boost a healthy glowing complexion. The main ingredient, and a hero of the line, is royal jelly – produced by bees ‘cocktail’ of 17 amino acids, vitamins B1, B2, B5, B6, C and E, along with Biotin, Niacin and Folic Acid – a real food for your skin.

I’ve tried Radiance Cleanser, formulated with a plant-based complex cleanser that removes dirt, oil and makeup. The cleanser has a rather lightweight, lotion like consistency but cleans very well, leaving your skin clearer, fresh and nourished. It works well removing even quite heavy makeup. I could swear that this stuff has calmed my skin and improved its general appearance. I normally go for a bit thicker formulas but I have to say I really liked using it, so much so that I’ll definitely repurchase. It smells a bit odd but nothing you can’t get used to :) The cleanser is 99.2% natural. Comes in a 175ml plastic bottle with a pump.

Radiance Day Cream is also an excellent product. It comes in a convenient 55g glass jar, which I quite liked. It has a lightweight, almost whipped consistency, yet when you put it on your face, it feels very concentrated. Only small amount is needed, otherwise it may take a while to sink in. The cream feels very moisturizing, almost quenching on your skin. At the same time it’s not greasy and did not cause any breakouts on my blemish prone, combination skin. It doesn’t work wonders in terms of giving your skin an amazing boost of radiance but over a longer period of time, it definitely helped my complexion to look more even and healthier. It works well under makeup. The cream is 98.2% natural and would be suitable for almost every skin type, perhaps with an exception of a very dry skin that may need something more nourishing.

Burt’s Bees Radiance Cleanser retails for £9.99, Radiance Day Cream retails for £19.99 but you can buy each cheaper here. The range is also available at Boots.

Wayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Powder Brush Review

Wayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Brush Review Wayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Brush Review Wayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Brush ReviewWayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Brush Review Wayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Brush Review Wayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Brush Review Wayne Goss Limited Edition Christmas Holiday Brush Review

Wayne Goss Holiday Powder Brush is the latest addition to Wayne’s collection and a limited edition for Christmas 2013. I just couldn’t say no to this brush after falling in love with brush no 2 but finding it a bit too small.

I’m happy to report that Wayne Goss Limited Powder brush is really lovely. It’s much bigger than brush no 2, denser and tapered (see photos for comparison). Feels silky soft on your face, seamlessly blends powder, bronzer or blush – it’s a joy to use :) I’ve been using it for over two weeks now and it performs very well. It’s just as soft as the previous brushes from the collection (review here) although it’s made with goat rather than squirrel hair. I’ve washed it repeatedly: it washes well, holds shape and dries incredibly quickly. The only concern I have is that it sheds ever so slightly – something I haven’t experienced with previous Wayne’s brushes. This was noticeable within a few first uses & washes.

It’s definitely not a budget powder brush but after dreaming for ages of owning a Suqqu Face Brush and never being able to justify a crazy £168 price tag – I’m happy I settled on this one. Many reviewers who own Suqqu brushes claim that Wayne’s brushes are equally soft and beautiful.

This brush retails for £50 and in the UK you can buy it from LoveMakeup.com.

Current Jewellery Obsession: Pandora Feather Collection

Pandora autumn feather collection pave charm ring pendant necklace

Today I would like to share with you something different… namely a few photos of Pandora Feather Collection :) I always liked Pandora as a brand but I was never crazy about any of their designs… until now :) I totally fell in love with their autumn collection! So much so that I was obsessing about getting a ring and a necklace for a few weeks :) The collection includes: Feather Necklace Pendant (£85), Feather Ring (£70), Pavé Feather Charm (£50) and Feather Earring Pendants (£75). All made from sterling silver and adorned with cubic zirconia.

These would make an absolutely amazing gift for someone special. I was lucky enough to receive three pieces as a graduation gift from my parents.

What do you think of Pandora jewellery? Would you like to receive a particular piece for Christmas?

(This is not a sponsored post; I’m not affiliated with Pandora in any way.)

Beauty Finds: Washi! Face Cleansing Hot Cloths

Washi! Face Cleansing Hot Cloths review photos Washi! Face Cleansing Hot Cloths review Washi! Face Cleansing Hot Cloths Washi! Face Cleansing Hot Cloths review

Hello Lovelies,

Recently I’ve stumbled upon Washi! Website and I would like to share with you my newest discovery :) For some time now I was looking for relatively inexpensive but good quality hot cloths, reluctant to spend more than £10 for something so basic.

Hot cloths can be used with just about anything you want: everyday cleansers, face masks, face oils or as a way of gently exfoliating your skin… As the name suggests ‘hot cloth’ should be used with warm-hot water as it retains heat and allow for deeper pore cleansing making the whole process more effective.

Washi! hot cloths are thicker than muslin, but thinner than regular face cloths. They are made from 100% pure white cotton, are very soft and pleasant to use. Importantly, they retain heat very well. They are just the right size (22cm square) and wash well.  I’ve been using these for a while now and I cannot really fault them. And the best part? They are very reasonably priced! You can buy a set of five cloths for £5.25, a set of seven for £6.55 or a set of ten for £8.95! Customer service was excellent; the whole order arrived wrapped in tissue paper, with personalized thank you note. Each hot cloth is also individually wrapped and you can even choose your favourite design! What not to love? :)

I’ve ordered the Washi! Skin Polishing Kit that contains four individually wrapped hot cloths and one Washi! skin polishing towel, and I’m very happy with it. You can find Washi! products here :)

Tweezerman Brow Mousse Review

Tweezerman Brow Mousse Review Tweezerman Brow Mousse Review Tweezerman Brow Mousse Review

Tweezerman Brow Mousse is one of my newest discoveries. It is a long-lasting clear gel which conditions, shapes and holds brows in place all day long.

I’m happy to report that this is a fantastic little product that does all it says! It comes packaged in a sleek, silver tube that contains 7g of product. Doesn’t sound like a lot but I’ve been using it over a month, and it’s still going strong. The formula is very lightweight, lighter than a gel but powerful enough to tame my unruly brows. All brow gels that I’ve tried before were either to gloopy, too sticky or left a residue (sometimes all three). This is not the case here. You cannot really see the product on your brows, yet you notice the effects. Finally, nice and polished brows that behave all day :) The brush is really great; it combs and shapes so well that I don’t have to use any additional brow accessories. Tweezerman Brow Mousse is hypoallergenic and fragrance free. It retails for £10 and you can buy it here.

If you have unruly, disobedient brows like mine, be sure to try this!  :)

Proactiv Solution: Repairing Night Lotion & Refining Mask Review

Proactiv Solution: Repairing Night Lotion & Refining Mask Review Proactiv Solution: Repairing Night Lotion & Refining Mask Review Proactiv Solution: Repairing Night Lotion & Refining Mask Review

Hello Lovelies, today I have for you anther review of blemish fighting products. I feel that acne is becoming the main topic of this week’s posts :) and rightly so as it is an important topic, and one close to my heart. Rodan & Fields Proactiv Solution is a range of skincare products designed to help clear blemishes and help prevent future breakouts from forming. I’ve bought and tested two products:

  • Repairing Night Lotion – formulated with Salicylic Acid, Retinol, Vitamins D and E lightweight lotion designed to prevent breakouts, balance skin tone and reduce pores.
  • Refining Mask – deep-cleansing mask with Sulphur and Kaolin that penetrates and clears pores, soothes the skin and has general anti-acne properties.

So are these any good? Well yes and no. Both products work but do not deliver the brand promise of ‘clearing your skin completely’. I’ve used the lotion every day and it helped to heal and reduce existing breakouts slightly but in a long run did not prevent new pimples. The combination of Salicylic Acid and Retinol is a potent one and caused some dryness as expected. Nothing major though. The mask is ok, it helped to dry and reduce existing breakouts but I wasn’t overly impressed. It smells like sulphur and the smell lingers after you wash it off! So be prepared to smell like you’ve just been to hell and back… :)

What worries me about these is an awfully long list of ingredients. I’ve consulted DR Google and this is what I found:

  • ‘butylphenyl methylpropional’ (synthetic fragrance. A skin irritant, its use is restricted in both leave-on and wash-off products because of its powerful sensitisation potential. In animals, skin applications at high concentrations caused sperm damage and CNS effects such as drowsiness and breathing difficulties),
  • ‘alpha-isomethyl ionone’ (synthetic fragrance. Causes skin sensitisation and CNS disruption),
  • ‘citronellol’ (synthetic fragrance. Known to be powerful allergen and sensitizer).

Sounds bad, right? I’ve checked some of my beauty products and to be honest some of them (even those over 90% natural) contain one or more of these ingredients. So you’ll have to do your own research to decide how serious it is.

Proactive range is available in the UK here, the cheapest set containing 4 full-size products will cost you £39.98. However, you can easily buy individual products on eBay for under a tenner each. (When shopping on eBay always buy sealed products!) I hope this was helpful. Let me know if you’ve ever tried Proactiv range? Did it work for you?

Salcura Antiac Purity Clear Daily Cleansing & Clearing Face Wash

Salcura Antiac Purity Clear Daily Cleansing & Clearing Face Wash Salcura Antiac Purity Clear Daily Cleansing & Clearing Face Wash Antiac is a gentle, every day face wash for acne / blemish prone skin. It offers a nice alternative to chemical based products, as it contains no harmful ingredients such as parabens. It’s packed with naturally effective ingredients including Sea Buckthorn, Aloe Vera, German Chamomile (Bisabolol) and Zinc for a naturally powerful skin cleansing and sport clearing routine. The main ingredient, Sea Buckthorn contains Omega 3, 6, 7 and 9 and other ingredients that help rejuvenate the skin and reduce inflammation all very needed when you want to fight acne!

Salcura Antiac Purity Clear Daily Cleansing & Clearing Face WashAntiac has a gel like consistency, foams well and rinse easily. It removes makeup, and sebum and leaves the skin clean and balanced. No dryness or irritation. I have to say however, that it smells odd! The fragrance is quite strong too, not so pleasant (for me) but definitely one that I got used to with regular use. All it matters in the end is that it’s all NATURAL. Right? After using it for over a month I think this gel is quite effective, it is not a miracle treatment for acne but in a long run it may make a difference to your skin. It calmed my skin, reduced the inflammation and speed up the healing of any existing blemishes. The cleanser would be good for just about anyone looking for a natural, acne fighting wash and I would strongly recommend it to people with severe acne, (perhaps undergoing dermatological treatment) who need a gentle, yet effective and soothing cleanser.

The cleanser recently changed the name to Salcura Antiac DAILY Face Wash. It also comes in a new packaging but it is exactly the same product (check the ingredients). The good news is that it is also cheaper & retails for around £8 for 150ml tube. You can buy it here (new packaging).

Bobbi Brown Rich Chocolate Eye Palette Review & Photos

Champagne Truffle, Cocoa, Rich Chocolate

“Better than a box of truffles this palette features a rich array of chocolate-inspired shades for a seasonal take on Bobbi’s classic neutrals”. I’ve been using it for over a month now and I really love it. It’s just my perfect everyday palette! I love browns and this palette offers a nice combination of shades and finishes. Looks you can achieve with this palette are mostly neutral, soft, pretty and understated, yet at the same time defined enough and very autumnal, warm and feminine. The darkest colour (rich chocolate) and the sparkle colour (caramel) can transform a day-look into a stronger evening-look. This palette features seven different eye shadows, mostly matte or semi-matte: (Bone [matte], Stone [matte], Frappe [matte], Caramel [sparkle], Champagne Truffle [shimmer], Cocoa [matte], Rich Chocolate [matte]). All packaged in a nice, very sleek and handbag friendly, mirrored compact with a glossy black finish, plus a dual-ended brush, which isn’t amazing but good enough for touch-ups.

The quality of the shadows is very good, although some are more pigmented than others. There is also a difference in their softness- some are slightly harder but the difference is marginal. Overall, this is a lovely palette that is vey wearable and I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it. It retails for 39.50 and you get 7.9g of product. This is a limited piece and appears to be sold out online but you may still be able to buy it at your local Bobbi Brown counter. Worth a try! :) If not, don’t despair! Bobbi Brown recently launched another lovely and quite similar palette called “Warm Smokey Eye Palette” available here.

Today a brief post about four of my favourite nail polishes for Autumn. Enjoy :)

  • Essie Tea & Crumpets is described as subtle, frosted beige. For me it’s a slightly metallic nude that looks very polished and goes well with any outfit. Good enough for office and a night out. Looks darker in a bottle than on nails. Essie nail polishes are DBP, Toluene and Formaldehyde free. Buy here.
  • Essie Mink Muffs looks like rich dark chocolate in a bottle. Very yummy and beautiful shade of brown. Perfect for autumn, simple yet elegant. Will add warmth to rainy, cold days. Buy here.
  • Becca Toasted Marshmallow is a muted soft brown with pink undertones.  It’s natural looking, neutral and very wearable, not to mention super pretty! :) The formula is TFCDF free; free from Formaldehyde, Toluene, Camphor and Di Butyl Phthalate.
  • Chanel April is a berry red cream, interesting and quite unique. Sexy but not provocative. The name may suggest otherwise but for me this is a perfect autumn colour. Buy here.

Let me know what are your favourite nail polishes for colder months!
